Fostex FT96H Horn Super Tweeter

The Fostex FT96H is an horn super tweeter with a frequency response that extends to 33 kHz.  The FT96H super tweeter has a very high sensitivity, rated at 100dB / 1W / 1m.  The nominal impedance of the horn tweeter is 8 ohms and the FT96H horn tweeter is easy to drive even with small amplifiers.  This horn super tweeter uses an alnico magnet, 34 grams.  Total weight of 600 g (1.32 lbs). Included with the  driver are gasket, mounting screws and datasheet.

The build quality of the Fostex FT96H horn super tweeter is excellent. The horn tweeter is very crisp with a frequency response that extends out well beyond the audible range. Provided that a high pass of 8 kHz or higher is used, the performance is excellent. The FT96H is ideal for mounting in an enclosure - front or rear firing. The FT96H can also be used as an external super tweeter.  Good results using a first-order crossover in the 10 to 14 kHz range.  You can use an L-Pad attenuator to match the tweeter level to your speakers.

excellent quality tweeter as adjunct full range speakers
I recently purchased a pair of these to add to some excellent full range ranges I also recently acquired (those are based on mark audio chr-70 drivers). I did this to add a very subtle amo u not of high frequency energy to the sound...this they do very nicely. I am running them externally btw..just sitting on top of the main speakers slightly off axis.

I have crossed them over currently at 8khz, first order, using a minidsp unit, and run the tweeters from a separate little topping 2020 amp...which gives me the ability to play with the tweeter volume separately. It also enables me to easily

I still have some playing to do with both the crossover and the volume...may construct a static crossover once I am happy with the exact crossover point and slope, with high quality cap and inductor as needed, but for now very happy with this addition.

These tweeter are surprisingly hefty also, the alnico magnets I assume, but it certainly gives me confidence in the quality of the parts inside. Satisfied.
