New from Madisound and Province Audio Specialties! Two Hi-Vi L6-8R woven-Kevlar cone woofers in parallel are paired with the WaveCor 1" dome tweeter in a sealed box with custom crossovers. 88 dB average SPL. See graph below.

This kit includes (4) four woofers, (2) two tweeters, and (2) two fully assembled crossovers. Also available as single for use as center channel. MTM configurations (Midbass/ Tweeter/ Midbass) offer a number of advantages over standard single-woofer designs such as:

Box dimensions are 24" tall x 9.75" wide x 11-7/16" deep using 3/4 material. Could add a vent if more bass is desired. Front panel layout below with offset tweeter. Mirror image for stereo. 10% discount on woofers is included. Constructed using 3/4” Birch Ply, Cross-braced, glued & screwed. Stuff liberally, taking care not to interfere with the drivers. Wt: ~ 31 lbs [14.1Kg] per cab when assembled.

Crossovers fully assembled on our 103B board, one per channel for easy hookup. If upgrading components, an additional board may be required. High quality MDL brand XPP 400 volt film capactitors are used for C1 and C2 and our U.S. Coils Steel Laminate 18awg for L2 low pass inductor. Some upgrade options are available via the pulldown menu. If there are other parts you wanted to use, just let us know and we'll try to make it work.

The woven cone on the L6-8R has exceptional midrange and vocal clarity, with smooth response and gradual roll off on the top end.  

The WaveCor tweeter features a 30mm diaphragm and controlled off-axis and power response, high power handling, and low resonance frequency.

Measurement & Design

All measurements for this system were done using constant-voltage drive. All acoustical measurements were done using calibrated microphones (LinearX, Bruel&Kjaer, etc). All driver impedance sweeps were derived using constant voltage DriverE/DriverI = Z measurements, with the test driver securely bolted into an IEC Baffle. Typically over a dozen sweeps are done per driver at differing drive levels. The entire process takes time but the results are essential and must be, of necessity, very accurate. Acoustical measurements done during the pre-listening test phase of development were done using a variety of modalities, including IEC Baffle, near field, 1m OnAxis (gated), and tower.

With all measurement data to hand, the actual design process begins with a rough-draft crossover concept that is optimized, then later built into a prototype. At this stage you have a nice sounding system, at least that’s what the computer says. Whether that’s true or not remains to be seen.

The now complete prototype system is re-measured, then into the first of 2 listening rooms it goes where a series of listening tests are performed and modifications are done. Every step is noted & measured. Once complete, the system is now 95% of the way home, so to speak. Its then moved to a 2nd, much larger listening room where it undergoes further assessment and modification, if needed. Once that stage is completed the crossover is built, documentation drawn up and the project shipped.
