The MCap ZN line of capacitors is manufactured from ultrapure RoHS-compliant tin foil using the latest in winding technology. In the past, it was necessary to add lead to achieve the required foil softness for winding capacitors. However, this lead was making a negative tonal influence on the music signal.

The Lead-free tin foil provides advanced tonal neutrality and avoids the harmful environmental effects of manufacturing with lead. The ZN has enormous conductivity (loss factor is ten-times lower than standard MKP capacitors!) and the massive tin layer ensures lively music reproduction. Finally, the mass inertia of the tin foil prevents internal oscillations, providing improved transparency and spaciousness.

Security Advise:

Once the dielectric film is damaged (f.e. due to surge) a metalized capacitor heals itself by burning the metallization around the damaged spot. So further damage is excluded. In case of misuse all metal would burn and instead of a capacitor you would have a non-conductor.

While the damaged dielectric film in a film-capacitors made of solid metal-foil, causes a short-circuit. So in case of misuse you would have a wire instead of a capacitor, which may cause serious damage. That is why our MCap ZN upto and including 1 mfdis made from 630VDC film. So they are able to handle a startup-peak when switched off at the low point in European 230VAC electricity network. That guarantees a high safety margin when used in US 110VAC electricity network.

Nevertheless film/foil-capacitors are not recommendable in power supply applications because they are still not self-healing. But they are warmly recommended for small and low-level signals!
