SEAS Prestige CA12RCY (H1152)
I've been a hobbyist for about 35 years, and I purchased a pair of these 4.5" Seas drivers a little over a year ago. My goal was to build a pair of small-ish bookshelf speakers, without spending a fortune. My total budget was less than $500 for the finished pair. Also, I already had a few small, cheap AuraSound titanium dome tweeters that I wanted to do something with. And so, after looking around at different mid-woofers and modeling various combinations on my computer, I settled upon these SEAS Prestige CA12RCY (H1152) drivers for my project. I won't bore everyone with a lot of techno-babble... I'll just say that I was STUNNED by how good the finished product sounded. I really wasn't expecting these little drivers to be very impressive -- I just wanted them to sound relatively clean and well-behaved. So imagine my surprise when these tiny 4.5" drivers were cranking all the way down to 80 Hz. (vented box), without ever once sounding strained! Their overall clarity and lack of noticeable distortion, even when being fed nearly 70 watts apiece, was equally surprising. Bottom line: these little drivers are, in my opinion, the very best that I have ever heard within their price range. They totally blew me away... and I am not easily pleased at all. Now I'm wondering how a dozen of them would sound in a line array.

H1152
Product review of H1152, 'I purchased one of these little gems and matted it with an older version which was not quite as massive. I did not build the cabinets myself but once they were installed I was very surprised as to the level of performance that I am receiving. It is hard to imagine that these are only 4 1/2 inch speakers. Distortion seems to be very low and there is a surprising low end. When I play music with lots of low frequency content, it is there. These speakers seem to be very accurate. I am an audiophile from the 50's and this speaker blows me away. I would recommend this speaker for any home but use a good amplifier. I use a small studio amp made by Stewart which only produces 25 watts a channel with 50 watts total in stereo. I have these in my computer/listening room. I couldn't be more pleased.
