The Silver Flute line offers exceptional value, build quality, and versatility.

The woofer cones and dust caps are made from a special mixture of wool and paper fibers. These wool fibers help reduce cone resonance, and give the woofers a slightly warmer sound than traditional paper cones.

The woofers have durable rubber surrounds and robust cast metal frames. The large voice coils are vented through the back plate.

These Silver Flute woofers are available in 4, 8, and 16 ohm.

Consider this product for home stereo, surround sound, autosound systems, and commercial line arrays.

Please look at the mechanical specifications carefully as terms like 5", 6.5", and 8" are generalizations.

The rumors are true.
Ordered 4 of these with hopes to use them in a 2010 Mazda 3. I set up a little test bench with my Lepai 2.1 channel amp, a couple different passive 2-way car audio crossovers, and some RE Audio tweeters (TW20, known quantity). The reviews I've read are pretty accurate. While I won't offer hyperbole, I will agree on the lovely midrange quality, very detailed-yet-non-fatiguing. One review I saw called it ghost-like. Not far off. The stereo pair just lay on a table maybe two feet apart in the packing styrofoam, and I listened to music for awhile, a lot of it full-range through the Flutes. Blocking the rear wave with my hands around the frame produced audible bass on-axis, and I can tell it's gonna be buttery and warm low end once in a box or at least a car door. These seem forgiving and versatile and will make most all recordings sound wooly, warm, detailed, and wonderful. There is breakup in the mids you'll need to cross out, but on a desert island, I could rock these wide open, no prob. Watching the cones bump to the beat was cool, even on like 10 watts/channel or whatever.

I can't comment on crossover frequencies or slopes yet, but I am planning some small sealed bookshelf boxes, the aforementioned car install, and some in-wall double MTM baffles in my living room, all 2-way with either Vifa or SB tweeters.

SUPERIOR VALUE!!!! SUPERIOR SOUND!!!
I bought a pair of these to replace two factory BMW ITT brand 5.25" woofers in my Jetta that had worn out and had begun to sound awful. I kept the tweeters as they sounded fine. The old speakers had decent bass that could best be described as tight but not deep. After hooking up these and after a week all I can say is that they are a huge improvement! And it just isn't because they are slightly larger. The sound is tight and much deeper. Now you will never mistake them for a 12" sub and they won't shake your car but already I have been surprised and how much bass they do make, enough to vibrate certain parts of the interior given the music - once they break in they will sound super sweet! What's nice is that I am still only using the original HU with whatever 10,15 watts(?) per channel through these and a set of Kicker 5.25s in the front doors. Great all around sound and I decided that I don't really need to get that hideaway sub. I just don't need that much bass!

Cheers!

Beats Dayton
Hello. I built a small pair of speakers with the Dayton reference 6" woofer. It sounded okay but I had a real bad midrange peak that I could not fix. I tried lowering the X over point to 1500Hz and still had issues. I bought these speakers since they'll fit in the same hole and used a similar box volume. I installed them just now and they absolutely smoke the Daytons in the midrange. The mid-bass and bass is about the same and they're not broke in yet! They are built so well, too. I just can't believe they are only $20. They're more like $80 - $100 if I had to guess.

Will build more speakers using the Silver Flutes.

'I'm not a person that believes something has to be expensive or shiny to be good. After seeing the 8" version of this driver in a $1000 pair of speakers and what was said about that driver, I thought I'd try a pair of these for $45 and see if I could hear what was so good? The answer is yes I can. I won't go into details, but I'll just say I've been listening to Fostex fe167e for a long time, and love them, these silver flute drivers although smaller, in my application produce A LOT more bass (they easily get down to 40hz with authority on 10 watts) then the Fostex and have a much warmer sound while retaining the transparency of a full/extended range driver without any crossover, while waiting for them to arrive I was considering a notch filter and maybe a tweeter, but I'm not going to bother with either, straight out of the box these drivers are VERY surprising, exciting and fun. I'm finding it very hard not to buy another 2 pairs immediately and give a set of speakers to a friend and put the other pair in my car. In a blind A/B test Id find it hard to believe most people.*cough* (audiophiles) wouldn't chose this driver over many others, of course many of them once they discovered it only costs $21 would have a disbelief (its cant be any good) heart attack and go spend a lot more money on a driver that is less enjoyable (but highly regarded) a transparent warm sounding speaker that produces *real bass* on very low power for $21.
