The Silver Flute line offers exceptional value, build quality, and versatility. The woofer cones and dust caps are made from a special mixture of wool and paper fibers. These wool fibers help reduce cone resonance, and give the woofers a slightly warmer sound than traditional paper cones. The woofers have durable rubber surrounds and robust cast metal frames. The large voice coils are vented through the back plate. These Silver Flute woofers are available in 4 and 8 ohm. Consider this product for home stereo, surround sound, autosound systems, and commercial line arrays. Please look at the mechanical specifications carefully as terms like 5", 6.5", and 8" are generalizations.

Frequency & Impedance Response:

Works well as a MTM design
Reviewed by Parkertip on 02/25/2016
This is one of a three part review. One for this woofer, one for the ScanSpeak D2608/9130 tweeter and one for the LEAP design service by Madisound.
I had a pair of .75 cu ft MTM cabinets lying around from a years old non-finished project. I also had a pair of these Silver Flute W17RC38-08 woofers not used. I decided to order another pair of the Silver Flutes and, using some old Euro tweeters assemble the speakers s a MTM design just to see what they would sound like. I crossed them over at 2 khz. They did not sound too bad at all.
I have always liked these Silver Flutes because they have a soft yet detailed sound to them. I like natural fiber speakers and do not like poly or aluminum cones.
I decided to upgrade the old tweeters so I emailed Madisound asking for a recommendation for new tweeters with a $50 price point each. Adam at Madisound suggested stretching my budget to $75.00 and get the ScanSpeak tweeters, which I did. The minute I installed them the speakers came alive. I was amazed at how good they sounded. That was a good upgrade so I decided to push the design a little farther still by using a correctly designed crossover.
I am no expert at crossovers so I had Madisound do a LEAP design for the ScanSpeak tweeters and the Silver Flute woofers. Then I had them assemble the crossovers using quality parts.
I ported the speakers with a 3” port 5.5 inches long. The speakers sit 20” off the floor on metal stands I designed and a metal artist friend of mine made. This puts the tweeters at ear level when one is sitting listening to them.
Once the new crossovers and tweeters were installed all I can say is wow, do these sound good. Very smooth. Vocals are astounding. I can listen to them for hours. I hear things I never heard before in my music. I do have a sub-woofer but only use it on older recordings as older recordings seem to lack bass.
I want to thank Madisound (and Adam) for their help and guidance. I highly recommend these woofers. You don't see these to much in a MTM design, but they work well like this. Buy them, you won't regret it.

Purchased this for car audio, needed a woofer to replace my existing setup. Read many good things about it so I figured hey its 30 dollars. Installed them and all I can say is WOW! they provide a warm, rich detailed sound that isn't piercing when turned up. Some reviewers say they do not get loud but in fact they do . Smooth and very well built; I was surprised on how heavy the motor structure was. Highly Recommended!!!
Very well built for money.

Well I used this woofer in a diy project I built for a friend years ago. I would have to say they are still going strong after years of use with no issues. I would highly recommend these drivers to anyone who is looking for a nice clean warm sounding midrange and nice bass. Mr. Jeff

This is probably the most underestimated mid-woofer available. Very easy to work with and highly recommended for those starting out in crossover design but still want high quality sound quality. Nice mids and sufficient bass for this size of driver. You can cross high enough to use an inexpensive tweeter. I very much doubt you will regret this purchase at this price. If I was going to pick on anything it would be the lack of distance between the screw hole and the outer edge of the driver but they even supply the mounting screws.

'Great build and exceptional value! The mid range is very smooth almost ghost like. Perfect for crossover-less designs very smooth roll-off without being (honky) that many crossover-less designs give. They don't quite match the SPL they are rated at but just a tad under and the low end is quite dramatic until 80 Hz and then it rolls off pretty quickly. No problem if you use a sub or use this as a mid bass which I did and it's perfect not too much crosstalk on either side so crossing over is very forgiving. If you are building your first speakers or don't have much knowledge of building crossovers these are great! Very forgiving!' Review by jason baker. Posted by Madisound.

'A really nice woofer for the money!! The build quality is very nice, a great looking cast aluminum frame. Used a pair of these in a two way design and they are most pleasing to listen to. I found them to be very smooth with no harshness or being overly bright and a nice bass response. Easy to build a crossover for these sweeties. For the price range, one of the nicer 6 1/2's on the market, certainly don't need to cross them low for quality sound! Madisound packed them well and the woofers come in a really nice Styrofoam case that protects them well. I was surprised at how hefty these woofers are. A GOOD Product!' Review by Jerry Anderson. Hello. I am writing a very late review on these woofers. I had bought them years ago when madisound firstgot these drivers in. They are very nice sounding and warm in the midrange. I had a seas silk dome I used with these drivers. I had a friend come over and hear them. They sounded better then his $2,500 speakers he had. This company is under rated and thier products are a real steal at the price. jm
