Nextgen RCA connectors do feature a wealth of innovations, all of them good enough to fill audiophiles with enthusiasm. It was turn for the well-tried WBT Sandwich Spades to undergo their very special 'nextgen' update. The signal conductors (of the Cu versions) have always been built by pure copper and their construction was based already on the minimal mass principle. New thing is that the base body of the spade now represents a nearly metal-free construction to become a 100% nextgen connector. You will certainly enjoy a much more detailed and spacious sound performance of your HiFi set! 75-ohm characteristic impedance means that these plugs not only transmit superb analogue signals but also outstanding digital audio and video signals. The transmission bandwidth is 1 GHz.nnEddy currents occur in metal components close to where alternating currents flow. These currents can result in major signal distortions. The WBT-0110 Ag is designed in such a way that eddy currents do not occur at all.nnThe contact elements of the plug are made of high-purity silver, the best electrical conductor of all, in order to ensure optimum signal transmission. The metal is naturally passivated so that the surface does not corrode or migrate and impair contact quality.nnThe clamping mechanism, which works in the same way as the chuck device in a drill, firmly clamps the outer contact against the RCA socket. The high clamping pressure not only guarantees a secure connection but also minimises transition resistance. The pressure wedge between the contact and the sleeve is made of plastic, which means that the sleeve is completely insulated and cannot influence the signal. In addition, any size variation in the outer contact of a socket is compensated for, thereby ensuring a perfect fit. nnThe clamping sleeve is designed with two sections so that the front section moves freely as the rear section is turned. This eliminates the risk of torsional strain on the contact elements.nnThe central pin is slotted and ideally formed thereby giving a firm yet elastic contact which ensures lasting and reliable electrical connection with absolutely minimal transition resistance.nnThe central contact element can be removed to facilitate cable soldering. WBT provides a special nextgen tool for this purpose to OEM users. WBT recommends the surface friendly silver solder WBT-0800.nnA Torx screw provides reliable cable strain relief. The basic element having influence on the sound quality of WBT-0102 Cu is the Central Contact Unit which has been developed exactly the same way as for the plug model WBT-0110 Cu: minimal mass of signal conductors made of fine silver. Copper was chosen as one of the best electrical conductors which is the absolute guarantee not only for an ultra rapid signal transmission, but also for an excellent fine resolution. The signal conductors are gold plated (nickel-free) and thus best possibly protected against oxidation. which would affect the contact quality.nnWBT-0102 Cu lies with its transmission bandwidth up to 200 MHz far in excess of the transmission bandwidth of conventional RCA plugs.nnThrough the collect chuck device which works like a chuck of a drill machine the plugu2019s outer contact once inserted clamps firmly to the RCA socket. The maximum contact pressure provides not only a secure connection, but also minimizes the transition resistance.nnThanks to the two-piece clamping sleeve the sleeveu2019s cone does not turn while the clamping sleeve is tightened and thus the contact elements are not exposed to twisting pressure. Besides, this way dimension inaccuracy of the outer contacts of the female sockets are compensated for.nnThe centre pin is slotted and slightly bent up and thus guarantees with its firm spring feature a long-lasting secure electrical connection with lowest transition resistance possible.nnThe body element is made of brass (gold plated) in order to accept rigid and particularly thick cables. The metal connector body is of course electrically uncoupled from the Central Contact Unit und is made of as little metal as possible so that also WBT-0102 Cu is free from eddy current to a large extent.nnOther than for digital outputs it is very important for phono outputs (record players, microphones) to have a good shielding against electromagnetic interfering fields. The key of the superb quality of this spade lies in the patented* Sandwich design of its contact fork: Elastomer oscillation dampers eliminate airborne noise and mechanical vibrations as well as magnetostrictions. This ensures almost total suppression of contact microphonics, and there is no interfering ancillary noise. The fracture resistance of the connection is improved at the same time. The sandwich design of the contact forks (sandwich spades) with elastomer inserted in a steel cap generates high and uniform contact pressure while minimising transition resistance. Four punched contact points on the bottom of the fork ensure precision contact. The quality of signal transmission is markedly improved, particularly with high currents or small voltages. The surface of the copper conductor is protected against oxidation by nickel-free 24 carat gold plating to underpin the low transition resistance levels in the long term.nnThe spade is connected to the cable by means of crimping. The signal conductor of the WBT-0703 Nextgen pole terminal is restricted to as low metal mass as possible consisting of pure copper. This does not simply preserve valuable resources, but also eliminates losses in sound quality owing to the mass storage effect. This effect is unavoidable with larger metal masses and has a measurable influence on signal flow. The innovative geometry of the conductors in the Nextgen pole terminals also prevents eddy currents effectively which can affect the purity of the signal. Eddy currents occur in the form of nonlinear distortion and cannot be corrected.nnBut the innovations by no means stop here. This provides an acoustic signal when there is sufficient contact pressure to the sandwich spades. It is a popular misconception that signal transfer is only at its optimum level if the maximum possible contact pressure is exerted on the contact surfaces. If these surfaces are pressed against each other too tightly, parts of the surfaces can be damaged beyond repair.nnThat being said, Nextgen pole terminals give you a free choice as to contact pressure.
