Markaudio Pluvia Seven HD 4" Metal Cone Full Range- Gold
The second-generation Pluvia 7HD is designed to supersede our original Alpair 7 series drive units. It employs many of the same components, and has a very similar balance of frequency response and Thiele / Small values to the old Alpair model, packaged in the more efficient and convenient Pluvia frame. With a mounting depth of less than 4mm, the Pluvia may be surface or flush-mounted, and the design of the mounting legs is very open, allowing good airflow to the rear.
The low-mass coil, suspension and shallow-profile cone are highly efficient. Frequency response extends beyond 30KHz, and the generous 4mm (1-way) Xmax and conveniently balanced T/S parameters allow 40Hz bass output in suitable enclosure designs. The sound character is neutral and highly detailed, with excellent off-axis performance. It is an extremely flexible drive unit for music, small HT and commercial AV applications, and offers exceptional performance at an affordable price point.
Small to medium sized speakers are usually lower power designs. The power rating is given in the technical data for each audio driver. For a reliable long service life, please operate your new speakers with care. For the first 100 hours, operate them at very low volumes. After this period, gradually increase the volume to a normal listening level. If you see the cone of the speakers making large movements, immediately turn the volume down. This will protect the speaker and your human hearing from damage. Factory mechanical defects for a period of 1 year. Excessive hard use (over-driving) and other damage caused during customer use is excluded from our warranty.
Fantastic Full Range All-Star
Cutting to the chase here, the MarkAudio Pluvia 7s are my go-to favorites when integrated into a variety of my small footprint ported enclosure designs. While they do not play intensively loud, they do absolutely play loud enough for an exciting & immersive listening experience. I am constantly impressed with the low frequency reproduction from these small ~4" drivers, plus the high frequency output is spectacular with a nice bit of sparkle that often only comes from traditional tweeters. Throughout the mid-spectrum, they are nice & flat and of course perfectly time/phase coherent.
In a couple of words, what does the musical voicing sound like? "Wonderfully natural." Diana Krall sounds like Diana. James Taylor and Lyle Lovett sound like JT and Lyle. Live acoustic tracks sound open & airy, and electronic tracks sound precise & punchy. I've seen Ella Fitzgerald live at Radio City Music Hall for her 75th Birthday concert, and her voice sounds as intimate, crisp & warm as it once did on stage.
A couple of notes in regards to driver presentation & look— these super attractive drivers beg to be seen! Both this "Gold" and the "Chrome" do not quite look like the photos, or others I've seen online. In real life the Pluvia series has a MORE metallic sheen compared to the Alpair series, but LESS of a metallic sheen compared to the CHR series. I personally think the Pluvia series strikes a lovely balance and has the most beautiful looking finish of the aforementioned three.
The color is also slightly different than it appears in photos. The "Gold" is not gold at all, and appears in real life as a soft brushed bronze, ever-so-slightly antiqued & darker than a bright bronze. I think these look great with dark woods and woods w/ red tones. The "Chrome" in real life is actually a soft brushed warm silver with just the faintest hint of a warm yellow-greenish cast. I think these look great with light woods & neutrals.
All-in-all, these 7s are fantastic Full Range all-stars. At this price, double or even triple the price, I have not found an all around performer that comes close to the MarkAudio Pluvia series in regards to sonic reproduction or their strikingly handsome looks.
