The Illuminator woofers are in every aspect unusual designs with the open construction, the extremely long linear excursion and patented under-hung SD-3 (Symmetrical Drive) neodymium motor system, which due to copper caps and its construction ensures very low distortion, adding the unique patented cones, low-loss linear suspension the result is: ”The Very Best Money Can Buy”!

The Illuminator woofers are based on compact under-hung motor systems with large neodymium ring magnets. The patent pending motor offers a very long linear excursion together with a very high force factor. The top plate is shaped to “guide” the backside airflow around the motor and with the very open cast aluminum chassis design the driver is virtually free from compression.

The under-hung voice coil is precision wound with CCAW ribbon wire on a titanium bobbin for a low loss yet high power handling design. The vented pole piece has contoured openings to eliminate any hint of turbulence noise. The uniquely shaped top plate and open air frame ensure there is virtually no dynamic compression caused by restriction of the diaphragm back wave.

Madisound recommends: a 2 liter sealed enclosure, loosely filled with wool or acousta-stuf. Your F3 in this enclosure is 185 to 200Hz, depending on the amount of stuffing.

Transparent and easy to work with

This little speaker punches way out of it's weight class. It measures as flat as scanspeak says that it does. It has a lot more power than I would expect from a mid range driver of this size. I have it in a 6 liter sealed enclosure and it goes down low with a simple 1st order high pass around d 150Hz. At the top of the frequency range it is early managed to crossover with just about any tweeter. It is highly responsive and accurate to whatever music you play through it. It is revealing to a fault. The off-axis frequency response is perfect to work with and will make for a much more forgiving speaker in a difficult room. I have this paired with a Purifi woofer and a Mundorf AMT tweeter and it's just magical.

4.5" Illuminator Exceptional Midrange

I replaced the midrange driver in my front main speaker and center speaker with this driver. The mains were using a Vifa driver and the center was a McIntosh driver. The results have been exceptional. I have worked with thousands of sound systems and find this to be one of the best midrange drivers I have ever heard. They are right up there with the dome drivers in ATC professional monitors.

I had a neighbor over to watch a movie last week and she could not believe how clear the sound was.

The clarity of these drivers along with their smooth frequency response has really upgraded the sound of my system dramatically. I could not be happier with this investment.
