Scan-speak 15W/8530K-01 5.5" Revelator mid/woofer.

Features a non-resonant cone and dust cap structure, dynamic linear suspension, SD-1 magnet system, "Grasshopper" cast chassis with maximized air flow and resonance terminating mounting system. Less resonance in all structures, lower compression and higher linearity, faster termination of excess energy and higher sound pressure capability allow the 15W more musical and dynamic capability than any other 5 ½" we know of. Wonderful bass in a small box!

  • Outside diameter: 148mm
  • Cut out: 125mm
  • Depth: 71mm
  • 25.4mm = 1" = 2.54cm

Box suggestions:

0.25 to 0.3 cubic foot sealed box with 20% filling for an F3 of 65Hz

Vented box not recommended as the Qts is too high.  Use the 15W/8530K-00 version.

A client wanted me to use these, but backed out.
I always start an unfamiliar driver on an open baffle.
With a simple first order 1mH series coil, and 2nd order filtering out sub 80 hertz bass, this is amazing performance on a small baffle.
Works very well with a padded XT25BG60-04 Vifa tweeter, along with a sub.
Room gain seems to fix the upper mid hump, I will gladly keep these drivers for myself.
They also mate exceptionally well with some 505 mini panel electrostatics at hand, no level adjustment required.
Hard to find a dynamic driver which pairs well with these, it just sounds like the mini panels are full sized, full range electrostats; in spite of their reputation as relaxed sounding drivers , I believe the Scanspeaks sound relaxed due to low distortion, and natural transient response.
On paper, the qts seems a bit low for open baffle, but they are fine for this, on a minimal 12×25 inch panel, with hidden 5 inch deep sides.
