Satori Helios TeXtreme 9.5" 2-Way Speaker Kit - Pair
Designed by Javad Shadzi, debuted at Axpona 2024, and encored in 25!
This powerhouse 2-way speaker uses the brand new TW29TXNWG-4 TeXtreme dome tweeter and Satori WO24TX-4 9.5" TeXtreme cone woofer. This is the 3rd installment of the Helios line of DIY loudspeaker designs. Like the original Helios and Helios CM, the Helios TX also combines a controlled directivity tweeter and a large midwoofer tuned with a 10" passive radiator.
Designer Notes:
When SB Acoustics and Madisound presented the opportunity to do a Helios design with the new TeXtreme drivers, I was very excited to take on the challenge. The Helios is the most widely accepted speaker collaboration between Jeff Bagby and I, and I wanted to honor his memory and legacy by doing an excellent design with Helios TX.
I had also used the Satori TW29 TeXtreme tweeter in other designs and have fallen in love with it's smooth response and natural sound, so I knew I could really make the Helios TX an accurate, neutral and really fun to listen to speaker. The Beryllium tweeter is also fantastic, but it has a hyper real sound that gave Helios a certain character, along with a natural response that made the Helios a little on the forward side but well within the range of what anyone would consider acceptable.
Given that Helios did those things well, I chose to tilt the response down slightly to give a less forward, more laid back and what more would consider accurate sound, especially when listening directly on axis to the tweeter.
Helios TX was debuted at Axpona 2024 with very positive feedback, many visitors agreeing it was one of the best sounding speakers at the show at any price, this was a great confirmation that the sound design and voicing of Helios TX had hit the mark. Helios TX is a stand mount speaker with full range sound, it will compete with most floor standing speakers of a similar footprint, but at a size that belies the sound it produces.
With the factory weight of the passive radiator Helios TX is flat to 30hz, and that can be extended lower by adding weight to the PR, but for 99% of all music the standard 30hz tuning will give all the bass content in any track up to a very high volume, well over 100 dB at 1-meter.

Helios Specifications:
Helios TX Assembled Crossovers
The series tweeter circuit uses ClarityCap PUR caps and Mundorf CopperNickel resistors. The parallel tweeter circuit has a 19awg air core inductor.
The series woofer circuit uses Solen Perfect Lay 14awg and Sidewinder 16awg air core inductor. The parallel woofer circuit has paralleled Solen Fastcaps and a high wattage resistor.
Upgrade options are available from the drop down menu. Contact us if you have a specific combination of parts you want to use and/or need them setup for bi-wire/bi-amping.
Each crossover is professionally assembled by Madisound on a Matrix Double (11" x 5.6") silver tinned inlaid OFC copper circuit board. If building your cabinets with the bracing as shown in the enclosure drawing, you will need to mount the crossovers to a side wall. The circuit boards have holes for mounting screws. You can also modify the bracing to mount the crossover on the floor.
Mundorf Cap and Goertz Copper Foil 3.0mH 12awg and 0.39mH 14awg upgraded crossovers are built on two boards per channel. It is highly recommended to mount the woofer crossover on the floor of the enclosure.
Crossovers include hookup sheets.

Crossover Schematic

On axis with individual driver roll-offs shown

Room is boosting the response in the measurement and the bass is more like 3-4db up with a downward sloping in room power response
On and off axis measurements

On axis with tweeter reverse polarity, ungated

The deep and symmetrical notch, when the tweeter is connected with inverse polarity, shows that the drivers should have good phase characteristics across the crossover region
Distortion measured at 1 meter, 85db

Distortion measured at 1 meter, 92db
